Ship of Life

I sailed the phantom 'ship of life'
for what seemed an eternity.
It steered in the wong direction
and brought nothing but misery to me.

Suffering was its captain,
trials and trepidations were its crew.
I had to cross some turbulent seas,
before my journey could be through.

The vessel it drifted into a port,
there were mortals waiting there;
but they had cruel intentions
and their cross I could not bear.

So back aboard the ship I went
and followed its course once more.
Eventually it came to rest
on a distant, unknown shore.

Someone was wandering across the sands,
his heart was as lost as mine.
Together we'll sail that 'ship of life',
until the end of time.
